The grounding wire that comes with the fan is just an uninsulated wire that would be okay if it were run through the wall but not okay in a swag use.Is it really necessary to ground it.
There is no electrical connection in the ceiling.
I will be attaching the fan to a bracket on the ceiling which is sturdily attached to the joists. My question is about grounding. The swag/cord is just for connecting the electrical outlet.

I'm looking for a ceiling fan that plugs into a wall outlet, as opposed to one that is wired into my electric?

April 23rd, 2010

I live in an apartment and would rather not screw around with the electrical wiring in the building. But I want a ceiling fan. Do they make a ceiling fan that has a wired plug that you can just run across the ceiling, down the wall and plug into an outlet? that way I don’t screw with the electrical wiring, but I get the ceiling fan and overhead light I want. if anyone can confirm this type of product is made, and where I can find one, I would be very grateful. Thanks!
