the ceiling fan remote control handles the light and the fan speeds. how would it be hooked up that the remote can still turn the light on and off, but also the light could be controlled by the wall switch.

When wired in an existing home the switch will control the fan and light period. The remote cannot override the switch. For the remote fan/light to work you will have to have the wall switch in the ON position. I just leave my wall switch on all the time and control it with the remote. If I turn my switch off it kills the power going to the fan and neither the fan or the light work regardless of the remote. I guess you could picture it like a TV. turning off the switch is the same as unplugging your TV. You have a remote to the TV but it wont work if the TV isn’t plugged in. Hope this helps Good luck!!
As soon as you turn off the switch, the remote will not work, that is the power to the fan.
You would have to find a fan model that has a wall switch that can be remotely controlled
Install a three way switch in the wall and a three way remote switch at the fan. Yes they are made.
